Music HQs Top Ten First Dance Requests

Here at Music HQ we thought it would be a great idea to comprise a list of our bands most popular requests for First Dance live performances!

1. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran

Yes, ‘ol Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is still by far the most popular choice for a First Dance across all of our bands. Here’s Ed himself performing it for a First Dance for a very lucky couple:

2. All of Me – John Legend

American singer/songwriter John Legend achieved global success with this beautiful stripped back piano ballad, simplistic and genuine, capturing the hearts of many wedding couples worldwide:

3. The One – Kodaline

Dublin-based alternative rock quartet Kodaline produced this song as a ‘Wedding Gift’ for their Tour Manager, spawning their biggest hit to date. This is a great song for a Live Band:

4. Say You Won’t Let Go – James Arthur

British singer/songwriter James Arthur catapulted back into superstardom with this love-fuelled comeback single, it has also been a huge hit amongst wedding couples. Someone that knows a thing or two about this particular song is Music HQ Director and professional drummer Ryan Aston, who toured with James across Europe during the height of the song’s success. Here’s Ryan performing the track with James on Top of the Pops:

5. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri

Pennsylvanian singer songwriter Christina Perri produced this song for the Twilight Saga, but it has made its way onto thousands of wedding dancefloors ever since and is still one of our most requested songs:

6. How Long Will I Love You – Ellie Goulding

First released in 2012, this popular cover by Ellie Goulding is still a common choice for wedding couples. It’s a great first dance as it starts off soft and slow for those all-important photo opportunities but builds subtly enough so you can actually ‘dance’ to it:

Not many people know that Ellie’s version is a cover of The Waterboys. This version has also been performed by some of our bands. A great alternative for Festival, Vintage or Bohemian themed weddings:

7. Ho Hey – The Lumineers

American folk rock band The Lumineers shot to international status with this festival crowd pleaser. Its commercial success delivered the band to new audiences across the world, many of whom choosing it for that all important First Dance. A great choice for getting your guests to join you on the dancefloor:

8. Latch (Acoustic) – Disclosure feat. Sam Smith

Sam Smith rose to fame in 2012 when he was featured on Disclosure‘s breakthrough single “Latch”, which peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. The acoustic version of the song has been a real favourite for a First Dance choice. Here’s Music HQ’s Rory from iRock performing the song:

9. Perfect – Ed Sheeran

During an interview promoting his newest album, Ed Sheeran described ‘Perfect’ as “better than Thinking Out Loud”. We can contest Ed on this and reveal that it’s not quite as popular as Thinking Out Loud for a First Dance… Yet!:

10. Sky Full of Stars – Coldplay

Coldplay have been dominating the British band scene for almost two decades. This song co-written and produced by Avicii has been an unexpected but very welcomed First Dance for our bands. We all LOVE Coldplay!:

Feel free to contact us here at Music HQ if you have any ideas or concerns about your First Dance choice. We’d be happy to help with further suggestions.
