FEBRUARY 2019: Band of the Month – iRock

By 1st February 2019 April 10th, 2019 Band of the Month

February 2019: iRock

We caught up with iRock‘s lead singer Rory Bridgeman to answer our Band of the Month questions…

What is your favourite venue to play and why?

Fairyhill in Gower, Swansea.
The venue has recently been renovated and the new ‘K-Room’ is just stunning. Whether the wedding is in the peak of summer or in the colds of winter, the venue is magical and performing in the newly renovated room just feels and sounds great. The lighting set up looks cool, the acoustics are great and with large glass panes all around, it’s the perfect backdrop behind the dancefloor and the band and we think it adds a little something to the occasion.

What does that mean for us a band? MORE DANCING ALL NIGHT, OF COURSE!

What has been your favourite First Dance to perform live?

Jake Isaac – You and I Always.

It’s incredibly refreshing when brides and grooms choose something more personal, other than Ed Sheeran or John Legend (nothing against them, of course!)

So when I was asked to perform this song I was really excited. I had never heard of Jake Isaac before, but when I listened to ‘You & I Always’ I simply could not wait to perform it live for the happy couple.

When the big moment arrived, the bride and groom were just so in awe of each other, swaying back and forth with the whole room just fixated on them, and the song helped create the most emotional first dance, I think, we’ve ever been witness to.

Which song in your set never fails to take the roof off the dancefloor?

Whilst Mr. Brightside is an absolute dead certainty to get everyone off their seats, we’ve found that ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’  by The Darkness is one of those anthemic, fun rock tracks that everyone forgets they love. It works every time. Ridiculous falsetto vocals. Ground-shaking guitar riffs, and guitar solos that are SO easy to play air-guitar to. It works on all levels and we find that when we play it, everyone fills the dancefloor and just has so much fun!

What do you love most about performing with the band?

This is easy. The band members themselves.

This band wouldn’t be half as fun as it is if it weren’t for the talent I share the stage with every time. Being in a band with your best friends is a dream come true and the line-up in ‘iRock’ has never changed over the 8 years we’ve been together and we get closer every single year. We have disagreements and sometimes it feels like a 4-way marriage! But when we play music together for a crowd of people, our smiles just tell the story. We’re incredibly lucky to do this job.

What’s been your most memorable performance to date?

We recently performed in Berlin for a large multinational beauty firm in front of over 2,000 people. The venue was the Velodrom in the centre of Berlin where some of our musical idols have performed and was the biggest we had performed at in our musical careers. After a 3-day long conference everybody was up for a huge party and danced from start to finish. It was a night to remember for a very, very long time.
