January 2019: Coverland
We caught up with Coverland lead guitarist Daniel Karl Morgan to answer our Band of the Month questions…
What is your favourite venue to play and why?
For me, it’s the staff at a venue which make it extra special. You just know those venues are the ones looking after everyone. Some of my faves include: Aberglasney Gardens, Stradey Park Hotel (Llanelli) and Llangoed Hall (Brecon).
What has been your favourite First Dance to perform live?
It’s a close tie for me! “Love You Madly” by Cake, just because I’m also a fan of this relatively obscure band, and also “Friday I’m In Love” by The Cure because this was actually my own first dance and simply a brilliant song.
Which song in your set never fails to take the roof off the dancefloor?
The obvious one is “Mr Brightside” by The Killers – always gets everyone jumping up and down. Other highlights in Coverland’s set include “I’m a Believer” and “All Night Long” – just brilliant singalongs!
What do you love most about performing with the band?
I love making a connection with the audience: the enjoyment, the fun, the gratitude, the respect… being in it together.
What’s been your most memorable performance to date?
The best gigs for us are when the brides and grooms are genuinely excited about booking us for their big day and make us the highlight of their party. A packed dance floor with everyone bouncing and singing along always guarantees the most energetic performance from the band. We played a few particularly great ones this year including Manobier Castle, the Ceridwen Centre and a festival-themed wedding in Taunton.
